On July 23, the Information Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province (GDIO) held a press briefing for the 15th China International Animation Copyright Fair. We learned that the fair will run from August 8 to 11 in Shipai Town, Dongguan, the capital of art toys in China.
According to Wang Yue, deputy director of the Radio and Television Administration of Guangdong Province, the fair will cover 26,400 m² of exhibition space. Under the theme of "Ride the Wave of Dreams", it will fully integrate "professional fair" with "industrial town" for the first time, transforming the event from a stand-alone exhibition into a full-chain industrial park.
Five themed halls will be set up: the Global Animation & Film Showcase, the IP Licensing Exchange, the China Art Toy Capital IP Workshop, the Brand Trade & Procurement Centre, and the AI-Powered New Scenarios Pavilion. More than 600 enterprises and institutions from over 40 countries and regions will attend, bringing over 2,000 IPs—the largest number in the fair's history.
This year's fair will center on the film and anime content ecosystem, partnering with Association International du Filmd'Animation (ASIFA) and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival , and other top international organizations and companies. The "Global Animation & Film Showcase " will gather original content creators, production studios, and IP holders coming solo or in delegations from China and around the world. Top global IPs and brands like Bandai, Shaun the Sheep, Astro Boy, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, and the Three-Body Problem will make a collective appearance, creating a cross-cultural exchange platform. National pavilions will be mounted by Thailand, Malaysia, the UAE, the United States, Italy, Switzerland, and others.
To mark the 50th anniversary of China-Thailand diplomatic relations, Thailand will serve as the Guest Country of Honour with a dedicated pavilion hosting a China-Thailand resource matchmaking session and related cultural events to deepen regional ties.
Dongguan is China's largest production base of art toys, turning out roughly 85% of China's art toys and one quarter of the world's animation-derived merchandise. By implementing the "professional fair + industrial town" model in Shipai, this year's fair breaks with the usual convention of hosting events in isolated venues. The "China Art Toy Center" embeds the platform within the industrial cluster, using the town's manufacturing base to enrich the fair while leveraging the fair's resources to accelerate industrial upgrading.
